Senior Cardiologist
A specialist in cardiology and internal medicine, Prof. Matetzky is a graduate of the School of Medicine,Tel Aviv University (graduated with honors).
1992-1998: He completed his residency training in cardiology and internal medicine at the Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer.
1998-2001: He specialized in cardiology and emergency cardiac care at the Cedars-Sinai Hospital at the University of California, Los Angeles. During his advanced studies Prof. Matetzky engaged in research in the field of cardiac events (heart- attacks), developing particular interest in the subject of myocardial infarctions and atherosclerosis in young people, and the relationship between clotting disorders and the development of cardiovascular events.
Prof. Matetzky's research included experimental laboratory work in a leading institute for the study of atherosclerosis at the Atherosclerosis Research Center affiliated to the University of California (UCLA), Los Angeles, on the subject of coagulation system activation and myocardial infarction.
2001- to date: Since his return in 2001, Professor Matetzky has served as a senior cardiologist in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and as Head of the Outpatient Clinic for ' Heart Attack and Atherosclerosis in Youth' at the Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer.
May 2006: He established and was appointed Director of the Chest Pain Unit at the Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, which deals with the diagnosis and immediate treatment of patients suffering from chest pain and possible acute myocardial infarction.
2012-to date: Prof. Matetzky became a council member of the Magen David Adom Medical Board.
Prof. Matetzky is an active supervisor and lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the Tel Aviv University. He has published over 85 articles in international medical journals, and has been the principal investigator in leading clinical trials on anticoagulant therapy after myocardial infarction; these trials have been cited in cardiology textbooks, and have won international recognition and awards.
Prof. Matetzky serves as Chairman of the Israel Heart Society Working Group on Cardiac Intensive Care, and is a member of several European and American cardiology societies, including the International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis.
Prof. Matetzky is the principal investigator of many clinical and laboratory research trials in cardiac events and anticoagulant therapy in post myocardial infarction patients. His articles have been quoted in the most prominent international cardiology journals and some of his researches represent a medical breakthrough in the field of cardiology.
